ADOC 2.0 Week 2009
kicks off in Taipei
TAIPEI,
Taiwan -- Ten representatives from the public and private
sectors of APEC economies attended the APEC Digital Opportunity
Center (ADOC) held yesterday in Taipei. The 3-day event will see
participants share their experiences on how their countries
bridged the digital gap.
The founder of Acer, Stan Shih delivered a message to kick off
this year's event, which will focus on the involvement of
Non-Government Offices to encourage the participation of
non-ADOC Partner Members Economies. In the meeting,
representatives from Chile, Indonesia, Mexico, Papua New Guinea,
Peru, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam reported on
the impacts that the projects have made in their home countries
as well as expressed their gratitude to Taiwan.
The ADOC project, which aimed to shorten the uneven distribution
of Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) in
less-developed areas, was first proposed by Taiwan in 2003 APEC
Economic Leader's meeting.
For more than 5 years, the project have reduced the digital
divide among the APEC members and provided ICT access for people
regardless of age, gender, health, social or educational status.
